In and Around Catz Cambridge Development Initiative: Volunteering Opportunity Do you want to oversee an international charity whilst still at university? Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI) is a student-led development CIO whose work is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. CDI works in collaboration with Kite Dar es Salaam, a parallel organisation made up of students from universities in Dar es Salaam. Each year, around 30 Cambridge students work with their Tanzanian counterparts on designing, implementing and managing development projects. CDI’s projects run throughout the year, during which time our student volunteers - both in the UK and in Tanzania - work to sustainably evaluate and develop the work we do, and look at new opportunities to expand our projects. This culminates in a two-month period over the summer, where the UK students are based in Dar es Salaam, and live and work alongside their Tanzanian colleagues. Every year a new committee runs CDI. This provides an unparalleled opportunity for students to oversee an entire organisation and manage a team of over 40 while implementing hands-on, community-based development projects. CDI has blossomed over the last five years and is currently in a crucial stage of development. The next student committee will have an invaluable opportunity to take CDI forward regarding project continuation and sustainability, the emergence of a global student development initiative network and codifying the working relationship between CDI UK and Kite Dar es Salaam. As a member of the CDI executive committee, you will have the opportunity to grow as a young leader, visionary, and practitioner in sustainable development. The CDI founders and the Board of Trustees support the student committee to ensure that the committee is equipped with the advice and skills to run the organisation successfully. The predecessor in each position is also available for advice and support throughout the year.
