CUMS Lunchtime Concerts Committee Applications

Join the CULC team! Applications are now open to be on the Cambridge University Lunchtime Concerts Committee for 2018-19. Open to anyone who enjoys attending concerts and would like to find out more about how they are run, this is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in Cambridge’s most prestigious lunchtime concert series. Taking place every Tuesday at 1.10pm in West Road Concert Hall, these concerts showcase the University’s finest performers with a wide variety of repertoire and regularly attract a large audience.

Paid psychology study

We are urgently recruiting some male participants, aged 23+, for our study on emotional egocentricity bias and mirror touch synaesthesia. It involves completing an online form that lasts about half an hour and an exciting study in our testing room that lasts up to 90 minutes. You will be paid £10 for your time. If you are male, right handed, and interested in taking part, please email Anna Hackney and/or Radi Shopova.

Oxcam Committee Recruitment

Oxcam are recruiting a new exec for the coming year! If you’d like to shape the future of the society’s activism work within Cambridge, we’d love to have you apply- you don’t need to have been involved with the society before! Over the last year, our society has developed a reputation for creative campaigning – with campaigns ranging from a polar bear punting down the River Cam to a museum of objects gifted to refugees to setting up a beach at Sidgwick Site – as well putting on fundraisers like music nights and a play, and a range of speakers events.

Welfare Survey Outcomes

General There will be at least 2 Welfare Events in Chad’s per term (70% of people wanted to see this). Have contacted Headspace trying to get a College subscription as 50% of people wanted this. Lucy is having a phone call with Headspace on Tuesday 27th March. To find out more about Headspace follow this link We looked into getting a jar of condoms and sweets in JCR and Chad’s, like the MCR.

Effective Altruism Events

Giving and Faith, Religion and Altruism, with Fran Day Tuesday at 7:30 PM – 9 PM Castlereagh Room, Fisher Building, St. John’s College Facebook event For many people, faith is the main motivation behind their altruism. Although Effective Altruism is a secular movement, it has many members of faith. Francesca Day – a theoretical physicist, stand-up comedian and liberal Roman Catholic – will be exploring the link between religion and effective giving.
