FAQs

CURRENT STUDENTS

How do I raise an issue with the JCR Committee?

Get in touch with one of our Officers, fill out the Anonymous Suggestions form, or head on over to one of our meetings! Find the meeting details in one of our weekly term-time emails, along with the Agenda.

How do I pay my College Bill?

The preferred method is using the online payment system, however you can also pay by cheque or bank transfer.

Remember to pay your bill on time to avoid the late fee!

What do I do if my sink/door/toilet/window breaks, or I have some other maintenance issue?

Please use the maintenance form. Note that these requests are only received during normal office hours (Mon-Fri, 8am–4pm), so requests sent outside this time will be dealt with when the office next opens.

They are there to help and are very friendly!

What if my WiFi is bad, I struggle to use the College website, or I have some other technical difficulty?

Please fill out an IT ticket and keep checking your inbox (including your ‘Junk mail’ section) for replies from the IT team. If you have slow WiFi, it would help to send College IT your WiFi speed using this online tool.

How do I make a complaint to College?

The college complaints procedure can be found here. For any general gripes feel free to email the relevant member of the committee or come along to one of our meetings, they’re open to all JCR members so feel free to come along and join in the debate.

The JCR also run a number of more specific complaint forms so that racist incidents, incidents of sexual harassment, or other problematic incidents e.g. on a night out can be documented and acted upon.

How do I know who to contact?

Check out our contacts page, or the one on the College website!

Why can’t I log in to the Caths website when I click a URL?

Try this:

  • Open a new tab and log into the Caths website (in the top right corner). Keep this tab open so your browser ‘knows’ that you are logged in.

  • Return to the tab where the link is, and click that link to open a new tab. You should now be logged in.

If this hasn’t worked, please send in an IT ticket.

What are the Bar and Hall opening times?

Please see our Hall and Bar page or your latest emails from the Catering department!

How do I log into Eduroam?

Follow the instructions set out by the College here, or follow the instruction we have set out under our 'Computing’ section in the ‘Current Students’ banner above.

How do I top up my printer allowance?

See the ‘DS Print’ section of this page.

How do I book a College space?

McGrath Centre:

Fill out this form.

Make sure you are logged in to access this form. If you struggle with logging in on the central St. Catharine’s website, click this link and log in. Leave that tab open. Then, come back to this page, and click this link. If this hasn’t worked, please contact the IT department (see above)

JCR or Old House:

Use this link.

Most other college rooms:

Use this link. Fill out the forms as best you can, and you will receive a confirmation email a few days/a week after. You should fill in the form at least 2 weeks in advance, ideally months in advance as the rooms are often booked up. The confirmation email will flag up any problems with your booking that you need to sort out. Generally emailing conference@caths.cam.ac.uk is good, as the conference office, who respond to these, are incredibly helpful and nice.

At the moment this link can be used for booking:

  • the Bar

  • Dining Hall

  • Ramsden Room

  • Rushmore Room

  • OCR

  • SCR

  • Alex Jacobson Room

Several things to note:

  • If you want alcohol to be served, you must seek permission of the Dean, Dr Edward Wickham.

  • For categorical responses to food and drink requests you should email conference@caths.cam.ac.uk or call the department.

  • You are unlikely to be allowed to have exclusive use of the bar during its opening hours, 08.00 – 17.30 and 18.30 – 22.00/23.00, however it is a student holding meetings and gatherings id encouraged, just be respectful and clean away after finishing.

  • If you would like to obtain a bar extension, you again must seek permission from the Dean. So far there is not much precedent for bar extension hours. This does not guarantee an extension as then you need to submit a request to book the bar to the Conference Office.

  • The JCR has a sound system that may be used for events.

  • If you would like to use Hall and decorate it in any way, you must liaise with the Dining and Beverage services manager, Ana Goodchild (01223 338324) and she will tell you what you are allowed, and not allowed to do.

  • Hall use must not interfere with the hours of normal service.

  • Recommended to book for 15-30 minutes in advance of the event so that everything is ready on college’s part, and so that you can set up if need be.

Catz Pitches:

You need to email two people for permission to use Catz pitches:

If you would like to use the BBQ you must seek Dr Edward Wickham’s permission; he will give you the health and safety guidelines, see end of document, and you will then need to liaise with Conference and Catering, ending up contacting Rob Jonas, Head Chef as he holds it. They do not provide charcoal or cooking utensils. If you would like to use music on the pitches you must not make so much noise as to disturb neighbours. You may use the May Ball marquees to cover the speakers so they don’t get wet. The pitches are shared with Christ’s, hence the need for permission as they may have a booking, and are a very sporty college.

Chapel:

If you’d like to use Chapel for any reason, you need to contact the Director of Music, Dr Edward Wickham, and liaise directly with him.
